1960-1967 Hood Alignment Tool Instructions

On the 1960-1962 cars, loosen the bolts holding the male striker to a point where the striker will barely move.  Insert the tool centered in the female catch on the firewall, the tension of the lock will help hold the tool centered.  Next, lower the hood until the male pin centers in the tool hole.  The tool is tall enough that you can reach inside and move the male catch.

Raise your hood and tighten bolts.  Once this is done on both sides lower the hood carefully but do not shut it at this point.

When you push down on the hood where the male striker is located it should feel springy with no rubbing.  If there is a rubbing, insert the tool and re-adjust again.  (A slight rubbing of the male bolt may be present if you push too far, it has to rub to close… but initially it should be springy).

You’ll know your there just by the feel.

On 1963-1967 cars, insert the tool in the the female hood lock on the firewall as far forward as possible.  Loosen the female retaining bolts and then drop the hood.  The latch spring and lever will aide you in centering the tool but it must be as far forward as possible in the lock.  Since the mid year cars don’t have any forward to back adjustment, putting the tool in the most forward position works perfectly, there is a picture below of us using this tool and the exact position we use.
